Dr. Fauci Reveals Your Chances of COVID Symptoms

There’s a very good chance that if you have been infected with COVID-19 it has gone undetected. According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor, almost half of those infected with the virus never experience a single symptom. Read on, and to ensure your health and the health of others, don’t miss these Sure Signs You’ve Already Had Coronavirus.

Nearly Half of Infections Are ‘Asymptomatic’

“It is now clear that about 40%-45% of infections are asymptomatic,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, told a virtual crowd of critical care clinicians gathered by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) as part of their conference, “COVID-19: What’s Next/Preparing for the Second Wave,” last week.

Fauci added that the impact of the virus is a once in a generation occurrence. “This virus has literally exploded upon the planet in a pandemic manner which is unparalleled to anything we’ve seen in the last 102 years since the pandemic of 1918,” he said, according to Medscape

He also touched about how the virus has impacted Americans more significantly than most. “Unfortunately, the United States has been hit harder than any other country in the world, with 6 million reported cases,” he said. He did say that while the European Union countries experienced a spike of cases early on, they managed to lower their baseline. However, he does predict that their numbers are increasing. “Unfortunately for them, as they’re trying to open up their economy, it’s coming back up,” he said.

The United States, on the other hand, plateaued at about 20,000 cases a day, before the summer surges in Florida, California, Texas, and Arizona spiked up to 70,000 a day. Currently, we are at about 35,000 to 40,000 a day.

The reason why our numbers spiked has to do with our response and resistance in closing the economy—including parks, outdoor spaces, and grocery stores—as was the case in Spain and Italy.

He added that a failure to socially distance also resulted in large outbreaks, including the Skagit County Washington state choir practice in March, where one infected member spread the virus to  87% of the 61 people during rehearsal.

Fauci Remains ‘Cautiously Optimistic’

The good news is, Fauci predicts that “by the end of this year, namely November/December, we will know if we have a safe and effective vaccine and we are cautiously optimistic that we will be successful, based on promising data in the animal model as well as good immunological data that we see from the phase 1 and phase 2 trials.” As for yourself: to get through this pandemic at your healthiest, don’t miss these 35 Places You’re Most Likely to Catch COVID.
